  2. INSTALLATION HINTS for the 14.4Kbps BOCAMODEM

  4. General Hints
  5.  
  6. Please read all manuals sent with your BOCAMODEM before
  7. installation.
  8.  
  9. Your BOCAMODEM has been initialized during factory final test for
  10. optimum performance with the included Quick Link II fax software.
  11. If, however, you are using another communications software package,
  12. please use the following initialization (INIT) string:
  13.  
  14. AT&FE1V1X4&C1&D2S0=0S7=60S95=44
  15.  
  16. Quick Link II receives faxes in background mode.
  17.  
  18. Some bulletin boards and information services have problems with
  19. data compression. If so, add %CO to the INIT string.
  20.  
  21. If you experience difficulties sending or receiving faxes, please
  22. disable all TSR (terminate and stay resident) programs. A TSR
  23. program is a program which remains in memory after it loads.
  24.  
  25. The easiest way to test the fax send/receive function by disabling
  26. the TSRs is to boot your computer with a plain DOS boot disk (no
  27. config.sys or autoexec.bat files on the boot disk). Change to the
  28. directory containing your FAX software. Load the software and send
  29. a fax.

  31. If you experience a data connection difficulty with a U.S. Robotics
  32. HST Dual Standard Modem on a BBS, the following should allow you to
  33. connect. Set modem software to DTE speed of 9600. In command mode,
  34. enter the following:

  39. ATN0             Follow the S37 register
  40.  
  41. ATS37=0          Force modem to follow the DTE speed
  42.                  after the next command.

  50. Connecting to another V.32bis Modem

  52. When connecting to another v.32bis modem, use the following string:

  54. ATN0&Q9&C1&D2&S1%E1S10=30S11=50S95=44

  56. Set your baud rate in the dialing directory to 9600. This will let
  57. you download at approximately 932 cps.

  60. Connecting to an HST Dual Standard Modem

  62. Change ATN0 to ATN1 to get a 19,200bps connection. NOTE: No V.32bis
  63. modem other than a U.S. Robotics Dual Standard can connect to an
  64. HST modem at greater than 2400bps.
